Why are there so many peacocks?

A local family kept them on their farm until 1986; when they moved away they abandoned the peafowl. We often have peafowl in our yard and in our neighborhood. Read more here.

When is sea turtle nesting season?

March 1 - October 31. Residents and visitors should be mindful of outdoor lighting, beach sandcastles and other human interactions that impact sea turtles year-round. Learn more here.

What's the Big Deal with Reclaimed Water?

Reclaimed water has been treated at the wastewater treatment facility, but it not suitable for drinking or other human use. It is great for water lawns/landscaping, and relieves pressure on the local lagoon and aquifers. Learn more here

Where can we fish or get fresh seafood?

Port Canaveral has a couple of places (Seafood Atlantic and Wild Ocean Market) where you can buy fresh seafood to take home to the cottage for cooking. You can also book a variety of sea fishing charters or rent equipment from A1A Outdoors.  Learn more about fish seasons here

What are Mobi-Mats?

Mobi-Mats are a non-slip surface installed at specific beach access points to provide a safer and more accessible beach entry for wheelchairs and other mobility needs. A beach wheelchair is also available for use from the Cape Canaveral fire department. Learn more here.

Where can I watch a launch?

We have watched both day and night launches from the beach at Madison Ave. There is another nice viewing area in the Port, with bleachers and parking. It does fill up fast. View a Google map here with more viewing recommendations.
